Meet Christina Nicholson of

It seems like everyone has their own little space on the internet today. If not a blog, then definitely a few social profile and maybe a Facebook Fan Page. One of the biggest reasons for this is that it’s now easier than ever to get started with a website or blog of your own — there really is little to no technical skills required. As long as this continues to be the case, we are going to continue to see the world of personal blogging and content creation grow!

With so much content on the internet today, there’s no telling who you might meet next, or what exciting stories or blog posts you will come across. That’s exactly what the ‘Meet the Bloggers‘ interview series is all about — connecting bloggers around the world and getting us all inspired in the process. Without further adu, here’s the latest interview in our ongoing blogger series.

1.) Please tell us about yourself and how you got into blogging?

Christina NicholsonI’m a former TV reporter and anchor who loves telling stories. When I left the TV business, I started a blog for fun. Then, I started my own PR company, Media Maven. That’s when I learned the influence bloggers had and jumped into blogging, even more, when I saw the possibilities. At first, it was a blog post in exchange for a product or experience. Then, as it grew, it turned into a side hustle where I was making a little extra money… and having fun!

2.) What is the focus of your blog and why did you choose that niche?

Lifestyle. It’s hard for me to pick just one, so I write about women in business, local family friendly activities and events, recipes, DIY projects, and everything in between.

3.) How are you currently monetizing your blog traffic

All of my income comes from sponsored posts. With that, come social media shares.

4.) What do you know now that you wish you knew when you first started blogging?

That the riches are in the niches. My lifestyle blog is not niched. Now, I have so many different topics on it and it’s hard to niche down. If I had to pick one now, I don’t know if I’d be able to. I wish I would’ve picked a niche at the start.

5.) What are three blogs that you visit almost daily?

As crazy as it sounds, I don’t visit blogs regularly. If I do, it’s from someone I follow on Twitter or someone who retweeted someone I follow on Twitter.

6.) Can you give us three recommended tools/services that you use with your blogging?

7.) What advice would you have for someone who is just starting with their first blog?

Don’t start a blog to make money. That’s a great end goal, but if that’s why you start, it will suck all the fun out of it. It takes time and lots of strategies. There are millions of blogs. Only a handful are monetized. Don’t just do something to do it. You need to be strategic.

8.) What’s the best advice or tip you’ve discovered about blogging since getting started?

Spend half of your time doing SEO research. Social media promotion is great, but it doesn’t last too long. Now, I let my SEO keyword research determine what my blog title and URL is.

9.) If you only had $100 to start a new blog, how would you use it?

I would use the money to buy a domain that is easy to remember, attractive to my niche, and SEO friendly. After that, It’s hard to say because there are so many resources that are free for bloggers. Many websites can be created easily with drag and drop formats, but because I’m not very techy, I’d invest in a website designer.

10.) How can readers of the blog get in touch with you?

Thanks again Christina for taking the time to share your advice and story with the Blogging Tips community. If you would like to learn about other bloggers and how they are finding success online, be sure to read through our blogger interview series.
